Study: Doctors Stethoscope Also Risky Spread Disease Bacteria

Geneva , Stethoscope is one of the medical equipment that is commonly used by doctors , nurses , or other hospital staff to check on patients . But who would have thought this essential tool can apparently be ' intermediate ' and risk of bacteria transmitted diseases .
Studies even reveal that the stethoscope is more contaminated with bacteria than the doctor 's own hands , after being used to examine 71 patients . Not the usual bacteria , the study also revealed that there is a possibility that microbes could spread to the patient one of them a deadly bacteria such as MRSA ( methicillin - resistant Staphylococcus aureus ) .
It is estimated that approximately 40 percent of patients ill from the bacteria infected and 50 percent of the amount of death . This event usually occurs in the ICU , and include having a high mortality rate .
" Considering that the stethoscope is used repeatedly during the day and direct contact with the patient's skin , then it is not possible to be a ' port ' for the thousands of bacteria , including MRSA . Based on the study data , we assume a stethoscope as a potential vector of transmission , " said Professor Didier Pittet , representatives from the World Health Organisation ( WHO ) Geneva Patient Safety specialist .
Quoted from the Daily Mail , Tuesday ( 03/04/2014 ) , Professor Pittet team previously conducted research in which 71 patients were examined by one of the three doctors who use sterile gloves and stethoscopes . After each examination , stethoscope and doctor's hand four areas tested for bacteria levels .
The result shows that the diaphragm of the stethoscope , part of the instrument that is pressed into the patient's skin , much more contaminated than the entire area of the palm of the hand doctor , except finger . Additionally , the stethoscope tube is also much more bacteria than the back of the hand doctor .
The study has been published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings this is the first time made a direct comparison to bacterial contamination of a hand and a stethoscope . This study simultaneously convey any message that needs to be maintained sterilizing stethoscope .
