Female circumcision is still widely practiced in Somalia

Jakarta , the World Health Organization ( WHO ) prohibits any form of Female Genital Mutilation ( FGM ) . But apparently there is still the practice of FGM in some parts of Africa . Somalia for example , is one of the countries with the practice of FGM in the world .
Accordingly, UNICEF and education campaign about the practice of FGM or female circumcision to the disciples High School in Somaliland , a region of Somalia to the Muslim population at most. Not only through campaigns and education in schools , UNICEF is also conducting discussions to discuss the dangers of female circumcision . The results of these discussions is quite surprising .
Nearly almost all adolescent girls aged 16-19 years to support the elimination of one of the traditions that require their genitals sewn up married . The tradition appears to reason that a person should marry a virgin woman , as evidenced by dijahitnya vagina until the wedding day arrives .
" I like the tradition is removed , it is an ancient tradition , " said Ikram Ismail ( 18 ) , one of the participants.
The surprise was that he did not reject the practice of cutting the clitoris and the labia minora of the vagina . According to him , the tradition does not have to be removed because it is the right thing .
" All women hope to get married . Tradition we require that women who are not circumcised ( clitoris and labia minora cut - red) can not get married . So I would argue that it is the right thing and not anything done , " he said as quoted by the Daily mail , Tuesday ( 03/11/2014 ) .
Haydar Nasser , one of the representatives of UNICEF, which called for the removal of the tradition of female circumcision in Somalia claimed to have a dialogue with religious leaders in Somalia . He even tells how the history of female circumcision occurs . He said to them that they are not following the tradition of Islamic culture , but rather to follow the customs of the pagan Egyptians 6000 years ago .
But the fact is useless dialogue . The problem, though many consider the practice of suturing the vagina had to be removed , but the practice of circumcision by cutting the clitoris and the labia minora can not be waived on the grounds of religious traditions .
" God created man as the most perfect creature in the world . So why do we modify the body ? " Nasser said .
In Indonesia , the practice of female circumcision is often debated . The Ministry of Health has lifted the regulations governing the process and regulation of female circumcision on the grounds that the practice is not a medical act . Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ulema Majeslis say that female circumcision has only scratched the membrane slightly above the clitoris and an act makrumah or glory . But the law is not mandatory .
" So the women are not mandatory . If you want to do, is do the glory or makrumah . Otherwise do so it's okay , " said Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council , ruf Amin on detikHealth some time ago .
