Not Just Heart Attacks, Cholesterol Evil Also Causes Alzheimer

Jakarta , Low Density Lipoprotein ( LDL ) is known as the bad cholesterol that can lead to narrowing of the arteries and heart attacks . However, these types of cholesterol not only cause heart attacks alone . Recent research reveals that LDL is also correlated with Alzheimer's disease .
An American study found that LDL is associated with the presence of the protein amyloid peptides in the brain . Proteins are usually found attached to the brain cells of Alzheimer's patients and affects memory , mood , and habits . Thus , it was revealed clear why increased levels of bad cholesterol also resulted in an increased risk of Alzheimer's .
The researchers also discovered how the impact of high cholesterol in the brain , both good cholesterol and bad cholesterol . High levels of bad cholesterol ( LDL ) narrowing of the arteries and trigger a heart attack , while the good cholesterol ( HDL ) to protect it . As in the heart , the two types of cholesterol will also have the same effect on the brain . So that was revealed by a recent study in the United States and according to the Daily Mail , Wednesday ( 03/12/2014 ) .
" Unhealthy cholesterol levels can directly cause high levels of amyloid , which is known to cause Alzheimer's . By the same token , a pattern that also causes heart attacks , " said lead researcher , Bruce Reed of the University of California .
Tim Reed has studied 74 elderly people over the age of 70 years . Their brains were then scanned using a chemical that can bind to amyloid plaques so that the results can be poured on the image . Based on the study , both high levels of LDL and low HDL levels associated with increased amyloid in the brain . The discovery was later dupublikasikan on the JAMA journal Neurology .
Alzheimer's patients can be given treatment without worrying about cholesterol treatment that will worsen their heart health . Because cholesterol is good for the heart is also good for the brain , and cholesterol are bad for the heart is also bad for the brain .
" This study provides reason to continue therapy cholesterol in people who are experiencing memory problems , regardless of concerns about the health of their heart , " added Reed .
Reed colleague , Dr. Charles Decarli , reveals that the results of this study is a warning to those who have bad cholesterol balance . In other words , people who have high LDL and low HDL risk of heart attack and Alzheimer's .
" These findings add further evidence that cholesterol is also taking part in the process of Alzheimer's disease , " said Dr. Laura Phipps of Alzheimer's research institute in the UK .
To avoid getting Alzheimer's , it is very important to maintain brain health . Same way by maintaining a healthy body in general that with a balanced diet , maintaining a healthy weight , not smoking , exercising regularly , and check your blood pressure is also cholesterol . Thus the message of Dr. Laura Phipps .
