Scientists Perform Modified Immune Genes to Make HIV Patients

Jakarta , Scientists discover new ways to prevent deaths due to AIDS ( Acquired Imunno Deficiency Syndrome ) . By modifying the genes , they can make the patient immune to HIV ( Human Imunodeficiency Virus ) , the virus that causes AIDS .This new method is not only safe , but also considered promising . It is expected that sometime in the future , patients with positive HIV drugs are no longer dependent lifetime. This finding was announced one day after the world's second baby is born with HIV positive , was cleared of the deadly virus after treatment . Although not yet confirmed , the treating doctor believes the baby from Los Angeles has been recovered .The idea for modifying genes came after an AIDS patient appeared cured after undergoing cell transplant in Berlin , Germany , 7 years ago . Transplants performed with cells from a person who is naturally immune to HIV infection .Around the world , estimated that only 1 percent of those with 2 copies of gene that specifies the protection against HIV . Therefore , scientists are thinking of creating a similar gene through modification .Dr. Carl June of the University of Pennsylvania is conducting a trial in 12 patients . Dibanti California company , Sangamo BioSciences Inc. , Dr. June removes certain components in the genes of patients who are usually the target of infection ." The ultimate goal in creating the body 's immune system that has been edited so that genetically could not infected with HIV . , But from this point we are still a long way to menuji there , " said Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases , as quoted from Dailymail , Friday ( 07/03/2014 ) .
